I don’t want to drink for a while
because my hangovers feel like my dad
as if my head is getting bigger and bigger
like my father’s after brain surgery
after he fell to the floor after a sunny
day at the beach, drinking, drinking under
the furious sun resolved to throw him a lesson,
I don’t want to drink because, see, I have some
daddy issues, and alcohol is sickening to me,
when tomorrow is not you and me, not you and me.
